About
PT-MATHS-IN, the Portuguese Network for Industry and Innovation, is the Portuguese node of the European Service Network of Mathematics for Industry and Innovation (EU-MATHS-IN).
It was founded in December 2015 as a section of the Portuguese Mathematical Society.
PT-MATHS-IN carries out a range of activities, many of them in close collaboration with EU-MATHS-IN, ECMI (European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry), and math-in (the Spanish Network for Mathematics and Industry).
The use of mathematical modelling to solve industrial problems—understood as all commercial activities outside the scope of education and research—has gained significant recognition in recent years, both in Europe and worldwide. Creating value through the development of innovative mathematical models tailored to the needs of industrial partners, and turning these into practical tools, is the ultimate goal of this network in terms of technology transfer.
Among its aims, PT-MATHS-IN seeks to raise the profile of mathematicians as strategic partners for industry, promoting new opportunities for collaboration within national industry. It also engages with potential employers and sectoral associations to better understand their needs regarding mathematical skills.
