The XII Iberian Modelling Week (IMW) took place from 15 to 19 June 2026 at the Department of Mathematics of NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT), Campus da Caparica. Developed jointly by PT-MATHS-IN and MATH-IN, the event brought together master's and PhD students from Portugal and Spain to tackle real-world challenges through mathematical modelling.

During the week, participants worked in teams on three interdisciplinary challenges. The projects explored the modelling of multi-species ecological interactions through dynamical systems, the mathematical foundations of adversarial attacks on machine learning models, and the use of gene expression data and machine learning techniques to predict brain tumor subtypes. Under the guidance of academic mentors, the teams developed mathematical and computational approaches to these real-world problems and presented their results at the closing session.

Since its first edition in Coimbra in 2014, the Iberian Modelling Week has become an important initiative for introducing students to industrial mathematics and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry. By alternating between Portugal and Spain, the event also promotes cooperation between the two national industrial mathematics networks and contributes to building lasting connections.

PT-MATHS-IN congratulates all participants, mentors, and local organizers for another successful edition of the Iberian Modelling Week and thanks NOVA FCT for hosting this year's event.
